Today I have read up to page 331 in Native Son. The main characters are Bigger, Vera, Buddy, and Bigger's mom. The story is told from the third POV, Bigger's. Bigger is kind of a rebel. He's stolen some things with friends, only black people though, not white. He doesn't have a job, even though he's old enough to have one. He's been through education up to 8th grade. Vera, Bigger's sister. She does some sewing somewhere, I cant remember. With how far I've read, I get the idea that Vera is very self conscious about herself. Bigger and his family live in a one room apartment, so Bigger and his brother Buddy have to turn around when Vera and their mother get dressed. Vera always claims that Bigger is sneaking peeks at her when she has no clothes on. And after Bigger is captured for murdering (and supposedly raping her even though he didn't), Vera stops going to school because the other girls give her looks. And Buddy, Bigger's brother of course, is very loyal to Bigger. When Bigger gets back home form the Dalton's, after murdering their daughter, Buddy realizes something's up. Bigger doesn't come out and tell Buddy he killed Miss Dalton, but when Bigger drops money by accident, and it's a lot more than what they could ever imagine, Buddy runs it back to Bigger, and Bigger gives some money to Buddy, and tells him to not tell their mother. Even after he's captured, and he and Vera and Bigger's mother are visiting him in his jail cell, with two other white people, and he tells Bigger he doesn't have to let them push him around. And that he has a gun and a knife. Bigger's mother is the religious type. She was always singing church songs when he left to "go get a job". And after he was captured, Bigger's mother begged him to pray to God for forgiveness, so she could know she'd see him one day in Heaven.
